| Overview |
A small country, Armenia was formerly part of the USSR. Armenia borders Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. The program in Armenia is small in comparison to larger countries. Children reside in orphanages or maternity homes in Yerevan. The orphanage and maternity home care is reported to be very good. Children from this area (in general) are fair to olive skinned, with dark hair.
Children Available:Infants, toddlers as well as older children and children with special needs are available. It is possible to return home with a child as young as 6 months. Parents may request specific age, gender and general health of children when applying.
Parent Qualifications:
Married couples and single women are eligible to apply. One of the adoptive parents should be younger than 49 years old to adopt an infant 12 months or younger. Parents must be at least 20 years older than the child.
Travel:
At least one parent must travel to Armenia to complete the adoption. Travel time is most often 2-3 weeks.
Timeline:
From dossier completion until travel is about 9 months at the time of this writing.
